LOVE: 5 Reasons to Love Bremerton

Historic, hard-working, and on the rise - Bremerton is kitsap’s biggest city and best bet.

Bremerton’s gritty, maritime history mingles with modern sensibilities as communities evolve and grow.

Here are 5 reasons to love Bremerton, Washington.

Kitsap is a ‘foodie’

Bremerton, being the largest city on the Kitsap Peninsula, naturally has the best options for food. No matter what you crave - mouth-watering breakfast diner fare, perfectly prepared Peruvian food or traditional Italian pasta, it can be found in Brem. Some favorites spring to mind - the house-made pasta of La Fermata, the fried plantains and pupusas of El Balcon, or the tasty, toasty brick oven pizzas of Toad House Cafe to name a few.

We head to Boat Shed for upscale outdoor dining on the pier on nice days or indulge our tastebuds at the beloved Hound and Bottle just up the street in Manette. Arguably Bremerton’s favorite eatery, Axe and Arrow Gastropub makes the perfect stop for foodies who also love craft beer, cocktails, and ambiance before attending a show at the Bremerton Roxy (more on that later!)

Funky, Fun & Flea Market Shopping

Bremerton has no shortage of fun shopping opportunities, especially if you have a flair for the fun and funky. Check out these local haunts for vintage, repurposed, reclaimed, and funky items, apparel, and decor. Here are two faves:

The Weekender: The Weekender is the wine-tasting/gift shop combo that you need in your life. Unique gift items, candles, and artisan jewelry share space with a selection of wines that are sure to delight!

The Dusty Pug: In the heart of Bremerton is The Dusty Pug - an eclectic array of vintage goods and one-of-a-kind gifts.

Historic Theaters + Art Culture…

If you lived in Kitsap County in 1977 and you wanted to see Star Wars when it made its now-legendary theater debut you had only one option - the Roxy Theater. This historic cinema and live performance theater is now fully restored thanks to the visionary ideas of community leaders and functions as a concert hall + Art House movie theater.

The Admiral Theater is Bremerton’s biggest and best stage and draws reknown performers from around the world. A stone’s throw from the ferry terminal, it is not uncommon for Seattle-ites to commute to see a show at the Admiral - something that few other Kitsap venues boast.

In the vicinity of both the Roxy and the Admiral is SEEFilm Cinemas - a modern theater that also serves as an anchor for the 4th Street corridor which has transformed into one of the coolest streets in Brem.

Quincy Square is the future of the Bremerton cultural scene, paying tribute to Quincy Jones, arguably America’s most influential composer and Bremerton native. Quincy Square will transform 4th St. into a pedestrian-centric space to gather, learn and live.

Connected by Ferry

Walking onto the Kitsap Transit Fast Ferry you’re less than 30 minutes from docking in downtown Seattle. Of course, there are always big auto ferry boats that carry hundreds of cars and passengers that faithfully make the hour crossing like clockwork. Riding the ferry is almost always a joy - the views are amazing and the hum of the engines are quite calming. Out on the decks you can feel the wind against your face and watch the chilly waters of the Puget Sound part, churn or recede as the forest-clad shorelines slip past.

Bremerton has all the Parks

From the views at the top of Gold Mountain to the shaded disc golf course of NAD Marine Park - Bremerton / Central Kitsap has a great selection of parks and green spaces. Many of these great parks combine shorelines with forests and park amenities making them multi-use and welcoming to all. We especially love that Evergreen Rotary Park has a boat ramp, huge swaths of lawn, plenty of picnic space, and a huge playground for kids. Likewise, Lions Park has baseball fields, shore access, and basketball + tennis courts. For an exploration of Kitap’s beautiful natural environments, Illahee State Park is your best bet for camping, hiking, and watersports.
