Summer Solstice Celebration
An annual event with a Nordic Market, May Pole Raising, Folk Dancing, Viking Parade, Summer Solstice Proclamation, and a huge Bon Fire at the Waterfront.
Poulsbo’s Scandinavian Midsommar Celebration
On Saturday, June 14th, Poulsbo Leikarringen and the Poulsbo Sons of Norway invite you to a traditional Scandinavian Midsommar celebration at Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park in downtown Poulsbo.
Drawing upon Swedish traditions, Midsommar features the raising of the maistang (midsummer pole), bedecked with greens and flowers to symbolize spring, life, and beauty. This festive occasion includes music, dancing, and flower crown-making, embodying Scandinavian culture and the joy of summer solstice.
Swedish Midsommar celebrations are rich with tradition: decorating homes with greenery, wearing flower crowns, dancing, singing, and feasting late into the bright northern evening. Poulsbo’s celebration mirrors these traditions, bringing the charm of small Scandinavian villages to the Pacific Northwest.
