The festival will feature live music, artisan vendors, food trucks, interactive exhibits, and family-friendly activities. It is designed to attract both locals and regional visitors, with a strong emphasis on cultural tourism and historical preservation.
BIMA Treasure Trek 2026
This year’s color is PINK!
Beginning June 1st, 200 hand-blown glass orbs will be hidden on public lands across Kitsap County just waiting to be discovered and treasured by intrepid art lovers like yourself. The rules are simple: you find it, you keep it! (Please only take one per person so more people can enjoy the hunt.)
The orbs will be hidden in parks, on trails and beaches, and throughout public lands across Kitsap County. Never quite in plain sight, the floats could be behind a log, in a tree, in a hollowed-out stump, under a bush, or in other spots that help camouflage the grapefruit-sized artworks. But there’s no need to go tromping around off-trail; these translucent treasures will always be about an arm’s reach from marked pathways.
These glass orbs, stamped with BIMA’s logo, are created by Hilltop Artists, a Tacoma-based youth development arts non-profit. These young glassblowers will create 200 unique “floats” inspired by the glass fishing net floats used by Japanese fishermen.
Found one? It’s yours to keep! Keep just one, but continue to hunt and share photos if you’d like—post your find on social media with the hashtag #BIMATreasureTrek and be entered to win one of five prize packages. Plus, tag @bimuseum.of.art so your photos can be reshared.
Our first float drop will be June 1, 2026, and more will be hidden over the next two weeks, so don’t give up if you don’t find one on your first outing.
Treasure Trek Rules
BIMA’s Treasure Trek is a you-find-it, you-keep-it event with just a few guidelines to keep it fun for everyone.
Finding:
The glass floats are hidden in public spaces such as parks and waterways.
No need to trespass, the glass floats will never be on private property.
Trail-hidden glass floats can be found within a few feet of the trail, and floats hidden on beaches will be well above the high tide line.
Glass floats will never be hidden in ecologically sensitive areas or wetlands (soggy ground = no floats).
Don’t forget to look up, down, and all around. The glass floats may be hiding off the ground in trees, behind logs, on an old fencepost, etc.
Keeping:
Please keep only one float per seeker. However…keep hunting, you might find one you like more.
Please hide your first treasure where you found the second one. Or, snap a photo and return it to its original spot for another seeker to find.
Please do not re-hide floats in new locations. BIMA’s partnership with the park departments requires BIMA to know where the floats are so they can be picked up at the end of the month.
Send a photo of you with your find to treasuretrek@biartmuseum.org.
Post your photo to Instagram with the hashtag #bimatreasuretrek and tag @bimuseum.of.art

Midsommar Fest 2026
Summer Solstice Celebration
On Saturday, June 20th, Poulsbo Leikarringen, the Poulsbo Sons of Norway, and their Vikings invite you to experience a traditional Scandinavian Midsommar celebration.
Event highlights:
10:00 am - 1:00 pm: Free flower crown-making, live music, and dance performances.
1:00 pm: Maistang raising, inviting audience participation in dancing and singing.
1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Folk dance performances by Poulsbo Leikarringen youth dancers.
2:30 pm - 3:00 pm: Continued live music performances.
9:00 pm: Viking Bonfire
Hosted at the picturesque Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park in downtown Poulsbo, this event offers two distinctive celebrations: an afternoon festival rooted in Swedish Midsommar traditions, culminating in the raising of a maistang (midsummer pole), and an evening bonfire inspired by the Norwegian observance of Midtsommer and St. Hans Eve.
Midsommar festivities in Poulsbo began in 1981, when the Skandia Folkdance Society relocated their event from Gig Harbor to Poulsbo’s Frank Raab Park. After Skandia’s move to St. Edwards State Park in the early 2000s, the Poulsbo Sons of Norway proudly took up the tradition, bringing it closer to the heart of their community. For over two decades, the Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park has been home to Poulsbo’s beloved Midsommar celebrations. Today, the festivities are organized by Poulsbo Leikarringen and the Poulsbo Sons of Norway Vikings.
These cherished traditions reflect the spirit of Scandinavian villages, now shared with the Pacific Northwest.
What makes Poulsbo’s celebration unique is its harmonious blend of two distinct interpretations of the summer solstice:
● Swedish Midsommar: In Sweden, Midsommar is a national holiday celebrated on a Saturday between June 20th and June 26th. Villages, towns, and cities across Sweden adorn and raise maistang—large poles decorated with greenery and flowers—symbolizing spring, life, warmth, and beauty. Dancing around the pole, singing traditional songs, and wearing flower crowns are central to the celebration. In keeping with these time honored traditions, Poulsbo Leikarringen will host an afternoon Midsommar pole raising, complete with live Scandinavian folk music, flower crown making, and traditional performances by Leikarringen’s talented youth dancers.
● Norwegian Midtsommer: In Norway, Midtsommer is celebrated on June 23rd, known as Sankthansaften (St. Hans Eve), the evening before the feast day of John the Baptist. This tradition blends pre-Christian pagan customs with Christian influences, most famously marked by large bonfires near beaches or water. Once linked to mystical and superstitious practices, today’s celebrations are primarily secular, offering a festive way to welcome the summer solstice. In Poulsbo, the Sons of Norway Vikings bring this tradition to life with a spectacular bonfire on the shores of Liberty Bay, lighting up the evening sky and honoring the longest day of the year.
This event is proudly coordinated by Kristina Halvorson, President of Poulsbo Leikarringen, with evening bonfire leadership by the Poulsbo Vikings.
About Poulsbo Leikarringen Poulsbo Leikarringen is dedicated to preserving and sharing Scandinavian heritage through traditional folk dance, music, and community events.
About Poulsbo Sons of Norway Poulsbo Sons of Norway is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving Norwegian heritage, fostering community, and celebrating Nordic connections.

Vikings descend upon the downtown waterfront of Poulsbo during the twilight hour for a Norwegian Midtsommer celebration. Earlier, during the day another local tradition is celebrated on the same day in Poulsbo, called ‘Midsommar’, a Swedish tradition of raising a maistang (midsummer pole), organized by the Poulsbo Leikarringen’s.
Poulsbo Leikarringen is dedicated to preserving and sharing Scandinavian heritage through traditional folk dance, music, and community events.
